Value Series #6

Humor

“You are NOT funny!” she says with a little smile. He keeps on making silly faces at her even though she is feeling pretty angry right now. “I said that you are not funny!” she says again but begins to giggle. He keeps making faces and she starts laughing.  What are we without a sense of humor or the ability to laugh? One of the values that seems to ring true the most is the value of humor.  All people looking for that life mate have named this as one of the most important values that they seek in a relationship.  Albert Einstein said, “There are only two ways to live one’s life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” How do you choose to view the life that you are living?

Humor is so important as a release of pressures that build up with a couple. Read this:

Sean and Lisa were driving home from a party. They were having a disagreement about how one of them behaved at the party.  Sean was pretty hot about Lisa and the fact that she was a little loud at the party. Sean yelled some insults at Lisa. In the meantime, Lisa was eating a few saltine crackers in her purse. Suddenly, Lisa just spit the crackers all over Sean. He grabbed the crackers, chewed them up while Lisa was laughing at him and spit them out at her. They both laughed so hard that they couldn’t breathe.

Sometimes this is what it takes to get out of a mess. Simple childish behavior. This couple still tells this story years later and still laughs about it.  The question is…do either one of them remember what was said? Does Sean remember her words? Does Lisa remember the insults? Nope. They remember the laughter and the silliness. That is absolutely what it takes sometimes to break each other out of that cycle of anger.

Looking back on what Albert Einstein said, where are you living? Stories of laughter are precious miracles that keep us going. Embrace your humor and create your stories of laughter. To quote a great movie….”Aw come on. Somebody tell a joke!” Moonstruck
