Contribution is one of the highest intent values. Many people think of contribution as donating money to a charity that serves a cause. While this is a true definition of contribution there is so much more. Many also state that they don’t have time in their busy lives to donate time to a local charity. While that may be true for some, there are so many ways that you can contribute to others in your community and in your family.
At the very basic level, you can take the time to acknowledge someone in the service industry for helping you. How can you start doing this? Here are some examples:
When dining out, take the time to ask and remember your server’s name. Make sure you say that name every time they fill your glass or bring your food to them. Make sure that you tip at least 15% every time. More than 15% means that they did a superior job. Make it your mission to talk to the manager when a server goes above and beyond. Be gracious with someone who is learning or just not having a great day. If you are able, thank the staff who cooked your meal. The time commitment for this is just about 5 to 10 minutes. You can do this!
When going to a place like Target or Walmart, stop and thank the person in front of the store or the person who is gathering carts so that you have a cart when you arrive. Even better than that…bring a cart in with you. Smile at the staff and thank the person that is checking you out at the register. If you have a few extra moments, tell their shift manager about their cheerful attitude and how much you appreciate that!
Take the time to send a Google review of the places that you are dining or shopping at. Your challenge with this is to find at least one good thing to say about that establishment. If you cannot find a nice thing to say then just don’t do the review. Put your positive attitude and positive energy to work here. You can make the time for this!
Contribution is about giving without expecting anything in return. Give money to that person standing on the side of the road who is begging. Giving is about doing so without judgement. And here is your ultimate challenge…
For the next 90 days do these things and then…DON’T TELL ANYONE. Contribution is selfless service. If you tell people then it is about your ego.
Many Blessings!
