Value Series #3/Faith

Do you value faith? Faith has such a strange meaning to so many people. Some people see faith as a belief in a religion. Others have faith in people they are in close relationships with. There are some that believe that faithfulness is about deciding to only have one partner in their life. So what is the value of faith really? There is no wrong answer.

Most would accept that faith as a strong belief in something. Some believe in God. Some have faith that there is a God. Belief is different from faith. One can believe that there is a God and yet not have faith that this God will help them. Can you see the difference? What do you believe in? What do you have faith in?

In a relationship, this is one of those key discussions that is incredibly important. Many over the ages have been sure that a relationship between two people with differing beliefs and stances on faith cannot stay married.  The world has changed. Couples all over the world have been realizing for some time that having different beliefs does not keep a couple from having a great relationship. A difference in faith may very well pose a problem. If you haven’t had this discussion with your partner, please do so.

Here are some questions to ask each other with the emphasis openness and love:

What do you have faith in?

How do you practice that faith?

What do you believe about those that have a different opinion regarding faith?

Do you believe in a higher power?

What does that belief mean to you?

Have that talk with each other and see how you can find common ground with the value of faith. Your faith and your belief do not have to be the same. Once the two of you can accept with respect each one’s value of faith, you will find that the two of you will gain more strength in your relationship.

Many Blessings!
