Misery Loves Company

Yes. Misery does love company.  Do you enlist the company of others when you aren’t in the best of moods?  Remember when you were a teenager and your parents asked you to do a chore?  Remember the smart remarks that you said under your breath when you didn’t want to stop what you were doing to do that chore?  It still can happen today.  When you are feeling negative (and this happens to everyone) you sometimes want to play a negative game.

This is where relationships with those you love can really suffer.  Your wife asked you to take out the garbage on Monday.  You said, “Sure thing dear!”.  On Wednesday she asked you again exactly the same way.  Your day at work was not the best.  You respond with, “Why is there so much garbage?  Why do I always have to take it out? Don’t you EVER take out the garbage?”  Your emotions can get the best of you even when you don’t expect them to.

Sometimes simple disagreements can mushroom into giant arguments.  What was the thing that started it?  One hour later…can you remember what the whole thing was about?  Have you digressed into name calling, yelling, and crying?  That’s where help with relationships is needed.  There is another path to take to make your relationships worthy of your love and affection.  That way is up!  Decide to pause when these emotions come.  Tell yourself why you are in this relationship. Stop and think about what your world would look like if you woke up tomorrow and that person was gone.  Now what were you saying about her EVER taking out the garbage?  Now it is time to say thank you.  Thank you for being in my life.  Thank you for cooking dinner for our family.  Thank you for the opportunity to help.
